BS9999 published

This new standard gives recommendations and guidance on the design, management and use of buildings to achieve acceptable levels of fire safety for all people in and around buildings.

BS 9999 is applicable to the design of new buildings, and to alterations, extensions and changes of use of an existing building. It also provides guidance on the ongoing management of fire safety in a building throughout the entire life cycle of the building, including guidance for designers to ensure that the overall design of a building assists and enhances the management of fire safety. Accessible Train and Station Design

Provides standards and guidance for accessibility at railway stations, and should be used by all train and station operators whenever they carry out works on their facilities. Published by the Department for Transport July 2008 at Accessible station design


New Equality Bill

The Equality Bill will replace the Equal Pay Act 1970, the Sex Discrimination Act 1975, the Race Relations Act 1976, the Disability Discrimination Act 1995, Part 2 Equality Act 2006, the Employment Equality (Religion or Belief) Regulations 2003, the Employment Equality (Sexual Orientation) Regulations 2003, the Employment Equality (Age) Regulations 2006, and the Equality Act (Sexual Orientation) Regulations 2007, plus other ancillary pieces of legislation.

Further details on the Equality Bill will be published in the summer. The Bill is expected to be introduced in to the next Parliamentary session, starting in November 2008. Details at the Government Equalities Office www.equalities.gov.uk
